Danehill Group is the private investment manager for the Murray family. Founded in 2024, it is run by John and Hamish Murray.
Our aim is to be a trusted partner and capital allocator, leveraging our experience, expertise and network to create mutually beneficial investment opportunities. Our approach is driven by two core investment segments:
Wealth Preservation
We adopt an adjusted version of endowment style portfolio management with a long-term and goal-oriented mindset. We believe in outsourcing this portion of capital to fund managers who are asset class specialists and we maintain a mandate that ensures we have minimal limitations on the asset classes we allocate to. This segment serves as the bedrock for generations to come and constitutes 70%-80% of the portfolio.
Wealth Creation
We focus on taking a more active and direct approach in our search for outsized returns. Whilst embracing an opportunistic spirit, we don’t believe this should compromise investment fundamentals so we ensure that we prioritise a risk-adjusted, not reckless, mindset. Competitive edge, asymmetry and experienced individuals are what we seek when identifying opportunities. Our flexibility allows us to balance patience with urgency so we can identify opportunities and deploy capital throughout cycles. This segment constitutes 20%-30% of the portfolio.
Who we are
John Murray
John established Perennial Value in 2000 and has over thirty years’ experience in the investment management industry. He is one of Australia’s most respected value investors and has evolved Perennial Value over time to encompass a range of well-established active management capabilities. In October 2014, John was inducted into the Australian Funds Management Hall of Fame.
In 2016, John co-founded Perennial Partners which joins with highly talented investment professionals to own and operate boutique investment management firms. Perennial Partners has some $8bn in funds under management across seven boutique investment firms.
Hamish Murray
Prior to establishing Danehill Group, Hamish spent close to four years working at Koda Capital in the investment advice unit. He worked intimately with high-net-worth individuals and investment managers across a diverse number of global public and private asset classes.
Hamish has also held roles at Perennial, where he worked across both the investment and distribution teams. Hamish holds a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning.
